CHAPTER 8

Speech Structure

Crafting an effective message is key to getting an audience to understand your message. In order to do this, speakers must organize their message in ways that are relatable and understandable. When speeches are well organized, it increases the ability of speakers and listeners to create shared meaning and understanding. A speech cannot be well organized if you are unsure what you are really talking about! After thoroughly researching a topic, a speaker must be clear on what they want to
share with the audience. Have you ever listened to a presentation and thought, “I don’t get it?” Sometimes speakers have so many ideas they want to share with an audience that the listeners are really unclear about what to take away from the speech.
